RAP History
In 1972, a group of concerned Genesee County Residents recognized the need for a hotline. A training program for volunteer listeners was designed and implemented. With phone lines manned, Regional Action Phone, Inc. (RAP) was born.
In May of 1986, due to the overwhelming response to the hotline service, RAP became a twenty-four hour Crisis, Suicide, Information and Referral line.
RAP’s growth didn’t end there. In 1994, Orleans County was added to the service area and in 2004 Wyoming County. Residents of Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming Counties are now able to benefit from the many services RAP has to offer.
Regional Action Phone, Inc. (RAP) is a private, non-profit 501 (c) 3 Corporation. We are members of the Alliance of Information & Referral Systems, American Association of Suicidology and New York State Alliance of Information and Referral Systems. RAP is a United Way agency.
